I never really liked Ann Curry on the show, partly because of an interview I saw back in 2007 embedded above. I thought she was judging the kid more than she was trying to understand him and the growing phenomenon of online sharing that would eventually lead to the success of facebook which has over 900 million active users today.
Now that I watch it again, it wasn’t that bad.
Ann Curry gave a teary eyed farewell from the Today show as co-host the week. I feel bad, but she still has a job and now has her own team so I don’t feel that bad. I feel not bad in the same way I feel not bad that Katie Couric left the Today show for the CBS Evening News for 5 years only to come away with a snarky Sarah Palin interview (she’s getting $40 million for a daytime talk show “Katie” with ABC starting in September 2012).
Before you ask, I don’t really like Matt Lauer’s ass either. I’m partial to my sports broadcasters Bob Costas and Jim Lampley.

This is a great opinion video on White middle class socially concerned activists wearing shirts saying “I am not Trayvon Martin” intended to show solidarity with victims of racially charged killings. She says that White middle class socially concerned activists should instead wear shirts saying, “I am George Zimmerman.”

Al Madrigal from the daily Show speaks to both sides of debate over the banning of the Mexican-American studies program in Tucson, Arizona.
“I base my thoughts on hearsay from others.”
-Michael Hicks, Tucson School Board Member
“They would go out every week and buy burritos and feed these kids… What that does is build more of a bond between the teacher and the students”
-Michael Hicks, Tucson School Board Member
“Honestly this law won’t be applied to any other of our courses. It was strictly written for one course, which is the Mexican-American studies program.”
-Michael Hicks, Tucson School Board Member
“The African-American studies program is still there. It’s not teaching the resentment of a race or class of people.”
-Michael Hicks, Tucson School Board Member
“I’m a black kid. Try to teach me about slavery without me feeling resentment toward white people.”
-Al Mardrigal, Daily Show Correspondent
Kinda one of my favorite songs.
The saying goes, 'out of sight, out of mind'
But I cannot fathom that notion
Because I will go on being a slave
To the whims of your heart
You knew how to clear up my thoughts
You gave me the truth that I had dreamed
You chased away my suffering
The first night I loved you
Today my beach is draped in bitterness
Because your boat must sail away
To cross other seas of madness
Be careful not to shipwreck while living life
When the sunlight grows dim
And you get tired of the wandering drift
Remember that for you I shall be waiting
Until you decide to return

Steve Edwards is one of the dudes in radio I respect to the fullest. When I grow up, I want to be just like him.
The Interrupters full documentary. At 16:47 with Tio Hardiman is one of the most poignant parts for me.
This is a video of Whitney Houston on David Letterman in 1985. She was 21 years old.
I didn’t make any posts about Whitney Houston because I wanted to post something meaningful to me. Seeing her on Letterman is amazing. Here’s a post asking “Which famous singer would have dominated American Idol if they had started their career as a contestant on the show?” Whitney Houston has to be the hands down favorite in that argument.
More of Whitney’s greatest performances can be found here. The Star Spangled Banner is another favorite.
Reminder: 2012 is an Olympic year. I’ve said it for a long time, it’s all about how fast you can move your feet, not how strong you are or how good your form is. 99% of it is in the mind.
Watch his mouth on the price of The Sun Setter. Clearly mouths $399. Liar.
